WATCH ONLINE:  CampusPride.org/CampusSpotlight

May 1: In this Campus Pride Spotlight, Ayla Azim (she/her) hosts Timothy R. Bussey, Ph. D. (they/them) from Kenyon College for a conversation about inclusivity and acceptance towards LGBTQ+ students at Kenyon College, which has a 5 star rating on the Campus Pride Index. Kenyon College is a private liberal arts college located in Gambier, Ohio. Dr. Bussey serves as the Associate Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chair of the LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee at Kenyon College. Dr. Bussey discusses the numerous opportunities LGBTQ+ students have at Kenyon, and the strides that the administration and faculty have taken to show support for LGBTQ+ students. They discuss the Hub, which is the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which provides students with a safe space for LGBTQ+ students to attend. Dr. Bussey also discusses two of the LGBTQ+ friendly program houses available at Kenyon: the Crozier Center for Women, which is inclusive towards non-binary identities and regularly hosts events discussing gender expression and identity, and the Unity House, Kenyon’s LGBTQ+ friendly program house. In these houses, students live in the upper floors while the bottom floors are used to host programming that relates to the above themes. Dr. Bussey also discusses actions that faculty and students have taken on campus to support LGBTQ+ students. Kenyon College is the first location in Knox County, OH, to offer PreEp, a preventative HIV pill taken orally once a day. They also host annually the Kenyon Queer and Trans Studies Conference, where scholars from across the nation meet to discuss LGBTQ+ studies and topics. They also focus on intersectionality, and sponsor student organizations such as QTPOC (Queer and Trans People of Color). To learn more, go to https://campusprideindex.org/
