Charlotte’s new outrageous wig fashion runway and auction raises money for LGBTQ+ youth on Saturday, March 21, 2020

Charlotte, NC — Campus Pride will host its inaugural WigOUT, a “hair-raising” social fundraiser and wig auction on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Midtown Ballroom Venue–– located at 1133 Metropolitan Ave #180, Charlotte, NC 28204. A fun-filled evening, WigOUT will present an extravagant runway performance followed by both a silent and live auction of the one-of-a-kind, outrageous wigs. Tickets start at $35 for General Admission, and additional VIP or drink packages can be purchased. Doors will open at 6pm for VIP and 7pm for General Admission. All the “over the top, outrageous” wigs for the auction are unique, custom-made by local hair salons, stylists and artists. The wigs can be made of any materials as long as the wig can be worn on the head. Twelve of the best creative gurus from the Charlotte area were chosen to be featured and to create their own wigs to be auctioned off at the event. The Class of 2020 WigOUT artists include: Donald Horton, Jennifer Reid, Audrey Berrier, Corrie Throckmorton, Cathay Dawkins, Tommy Feldman, Kathryn Godwin, Amberle Linnea, and Jessie Hamby.  Other artists are still welcome to apply online.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to support the work of Campus Pride, a Charlotte-based national non-profit organization dedicated to empowering LGBTQ+ student leaders and creating a safe and inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ youth.  Campus Pride programs include the Campus Pride Index, the Stop the Hate Campaign, LGBTQ+ scholarship databases, and Camp Pride, a summer leadership program for LGBTQ+ and ally student leaders.

“WigOUT is more than just a fundraiser- it’s a night that brings the community together in a fun and fabulous way. I am excited to share the important work of Campus Pride for LGBTQ youth and do it in this creative manner,” said Shane Windmeyer, Executive Director of Campus Pride.  “Everyone is welcome and we hope you will come to bid on some ‘outrageous, wild’ one-of-a-kind wigs for charity!”
