Joanna Lohman is a proud “out” professional athlete and trailblazer. As a soccer player, Joanna was a two-year captain at Pennsylvania State University and the first four-time First Team All-Big Ten selection in the school’s history. Joanna’s 29-game career with the US Women’s National Team included two years as captain of the U23 squad. Joanna also has 7 caps for the Full US National Team, making her debut in 2003-2004 in the Algarve Cup against Italy. Being a top scorer for the Philadelphia Independence (WPS) was the next major step in her soccer career. Joanna has a savvy business mind to go with her soccer successes, earning a 3.98 GPA while obtaining her business degree, a feat that made her a four time Academic All-American.
Joanna is the Vice President of Tenant Consulting, a commercial real estate firm in Washington, DC. She is also an accomplished blogger and featured radio personality. Now 29, Joanna has travelled to over twenty countries in search of the best training environments and experiences. She lives by the Steve Prefontaine quote, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.” She has a passion for nourishing talent wherever it is found, believing it should not be limited by gender politics or birthplace. Joanna’s experiences have instilled a desire to pour her efforts into the soccer programs and motivational services of JoLi Academy, a training center for youth female soccer players in India that she founded with her teammate and partner Lianne Sanderson. Joanna has been featured in LGBT magazines and blogs such as GO Magazine, GPhilly, and AfterEllen, as well as organizations such as Our Group Athletes and GLSEN Sports Project.
