Marriage Equality Activists & Prop 8 Plaintiffs Paul Katami & Jeff Zarrillo join Campus Pride Speakers Bureau to tour college campuses

photo7Campus Pride announces the addition of Marriage Equality Activists & Prop 8 Plaintiffs Paul Katami and Jeff Zarillo to Speakers Bureau for campus speaking engagements; New HBO documentary titled “The Case Against 8″ stars gay couple & the historic landmark decision overturning Prop 8

Paul Katami, 41, and his husband Jeff Zarrillo, 40, of Burbank, California were the plaintiffs in the landmark United States Supreme Court case Hollingsworth vs Perry which overturned a ballot initiative known as Proposition 8 and restored equal marriage rights in California.  The lawsuit was the first of its kind to be heard in front of the highest court in the land and the first to challenge marriage equality bans for gays and lesbians on Federal Constitutional grounds.

Katami and Zarrillo were not activists.  They were just two regular guys who just happened to love each other and wanted to take their relationship of 8+ years at the time, to the next level.  They decided they could no longer stand for being treated as second-class citizens.

Through the use of social media, Paul and Jeff stepped into action and created a video that went viral over-night. With the help of visionary leader Chad Griffin, now President of the Human Rights Campaign, power lawyers Ted Olson and David Boies, who battled against each other in deciding our 2000 Presidential Election via Bush vs Gore, Hollywood activists Rob Reiner, Bruce Cohen and “Milk” screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, the American Foundation for Equal Rights, was born and a federal lawsuit was filed in California. These two now-married men have made history changing the face of adversity and discrimination into action as plaintiffs in the Proposition 8 landmark court challenge.

SCOTUSRecently given the Human Rights Campaign National Equality Award, Paul and Jeff have appeared numerous times on CNN, NPR and MSNBC talking about their lawsuit and LGBT issues as a whole.  They have also been profiled in the USA Today and Washington Post while also being chosen as Instinct Magazine’s Leading Men cover guys and as members of OUT Magazine’s “OUT 100 2013” which spawned a documentary “A World of Dreams.” They will soon star in their own HBO documentary, “The Case Against 8” set to premier at Sundance in January 2014 and will air on HBO around the world in the Spring 2014.
